Bratton Primary School is situated in the centre of Bratton Village, a thriving and closely-knit community nestled below the scarp slopes of Salisbury Plain. The buildings are constructed around a central quadrangle. Each of the seven classrooms is light and airy and equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard, mini library and practical area for art and creative expression. Through our laptop carousel each child is given ample opportunity to develop IT skills in their classroom The older children make full use of the games area, large playing field and "all weather" path. Children in the reception class have their own special play area and equipment.

All staff work hard to maintain the excellent behaviour in the school. Emphasis is placed on celebrating good behaviour towards one another and a positive attitude towards work. Representatives from each class are elected by their classmates to sit on the School Council, which OfSTED found to play "...an active role in promoting pupils' ideas and opinions."

The Philosophy behind Education at Bratton Primary School

We recognise that pupils learn best when they are happy and in an atmosphere which is:-

  • stimulating and challenging
  • supportive and encouraging

enthusiastic and enjoyable.

At Bratton Primary School we want to combine the best in education with excellent facilities and accommodation. We are proud of our achievements and of the caring ethos we believe we promote.

Our catchment and involvement with the local Community

The majority of our pupils are drawn from Bratton and the surrounding area including Edington, Steeple Ashton, and Westbury.

Ellen says, "Our lessons are really good, and everybody learns something new every single day."

Our Foundation Stage has been judged Satisfactory by OfSTED: This improvement over the last 2 years is the result of great dedication from our staff and much improved resources. We have a close connection with the Bratton Pre-School,  and our children receive an intensive induction programme when moving into our school.

We are committed to following the National Curriculum, but we also ensure that each child develops a deep awareness of the world around them and that they develop respect for others. Children are given every opportunity to contribute through a wide range of activities such as school trips, music events, class assemblies and speakers' corner. Bratton School believes that all children are special, and that some children have particular needs. We have an open dialogue with our families and value communications about concerns and celebrations.

Special, individual programs of work are created to help pupils with special needs.

Bratton aims to identify and respond to the needs of each pupil by:-

  • developing character, talent and responsible independence
  • monitoring academic progress carefully

having a wide and varied curriculum. We hope that each child will find here:-

  • a desire to learn
  • inspiration in their achievements
  • a safe and caring environment
  • empathy and consideration for others

We realise that it is important for you to make the best possible choice of school for your child. This is why we have an open door policy where prospective parents are welcome to visit by appointment to see the school in action, visit classes and look at the wide variety and quality of our children's work.

Various activities take place out of school hours, including football, netball, tag rugby, games club, drama and dance clubs and a French club. Children have ample opportunity to develop their musical ability.
