We have had an action-packed first day at Simonsbath. We arrived at midday and have already taken part in a variety of activities. We started off by having a tour of the centre and the children were given the challenge of making their own beds and earning themselves dorm points. The children were then shown around the assault course; they had to work their way through the course (as a team) and each time they touched the floor a point was added. The group with the least points at the end were the winners. From there we split into two groups to take part in a further two activities. The first was ‘Traversing’ and the second was ‘The Great Wall.’ Both activities showed teamwork and the children showed huge amounts of resilience. Later in the afternoon, we had a circus session where the children were able to experiment with a range of circus equipment.
This evening we are going to be taking part in a Ukulele workshop before relaxing with a hot drink before bed.
The children slept well and have shown brilliant perseverance throughout today’s activities. We started the day with a cooked breakfast followed by grass sledging. The children had to use their left and right levers to control the sledge down the meadow slope. The children were split into groups for the next two activities: stream scrambling and high ropes/ tree trekking. These were very physical activities that involved lots of communication and co-operation to be successful. We finished our activities by doing archery as a group. We are extremely proud of the children’s positive attitude towards the day considering the extreme wet weather.
This evening we are going to play bingo, board games and relax with a hot chocolate before bed.
Last night the children had a relaxing evening playing bingo and sharing jokes. Due to all of the physical activities the day before, we all slept well and are ready for a day at the wildlife park. All beds have been stripped by the children and packing is in progress. The children have just been told their surprise of being able to go into the Meerkat enclosure to feed the Meerkats. They all seem very excited.
